About Us

Our Vineyard
Paul and Loretta Briedé of Winchester, Virginia, purchased the land in 2002 and established the Briedé Family Vineyards in 2013. The years before the vineyard was established, the fields around the main house were used for Loretta's hunter horses. Paul & Loretta love great wine and now had the means to pursue a new adventure. They envisioned creating a vineyard using sustainable practices to grow healthy, grapes that showcase the beauty and terroir of Virginia. They are proud to be a part of the Virgina Wine Community for the past 11 years, producing approximately 800 cases of Estate Grown Wines.

Our Tasting Room
Our tasting room, the former horse barn, opened in 2018 and is where we offer our award-winning estate wines, as well as an amazing selection of French Champagnes and sparkling wines. Our wines have always been our highest priority, making new wines with grapes not as familiar to Virginia. We are proud to say that our wines have visited Japan, Israel, BVI, England, France, to name a few and we are one of the first producers of the Arandell Grape Wines in the World. We believe hybrid grapes are our future and we will continue to explore what contribution they can make to the wine industry as a whole.

Meet the Owners

Paul Briede spent a flawless 38 years transporting people around the world as a United Airlines pilot. Since his retirement in 2021 he has been very active as an owner of Briede Family Vineyards. His job duties are endless and there is nothing he cannot do. A very valuable asset in a vineyard. His primary role is managing the vineyard. Your wine making starts here. You have heard the saying "the wine starts in soil" well that couldn't be truer.
The transition from Pilot to Vintner was a labor of love for Paul. When asked if he misses flying the response is always, "No!" He loves his vineyard, and enjoys the peace and tranquility of having an office amongst his vines.

Loretta Briede has spent most of her life on the back of a horse. She has trained horses and competed for many years riding horses. Her accomplishments include winning the 2004 Field Hunter Championship of America, having ridden and trained the best Fox Hunting horse in America, multiple years riding in the Devon Horse Show as well as other rated shows, with championships at numerous events throughout her riding career.
She raised two beautiful children and worked as a flight attendant for United Airlines for a brief 5 ½ years, with several years of being recognized as the best in the industry from United Airlines. Over the years she has taken several types of jobs all contributing to her current portfolio, including working for two senators and in the oil industry in Wyoming.
With a service background, the tasting room became a very good fit. The vineyard has been a part of her life for the past 11 years, with a mindset to produce wines that were clean and nurtured in a certified organic vineyard. While Paul was still working, Loretta was the vineyard manager, implementing biodynamic practices for the first 3 years.
Today her duties have moved to the tasting room and running the business. The wines you drink are a result of her palette, Paul's practices in the vineyard, and our winemaker’s history of making exceptional wines.
Being a small boutique winery “everyone wears many hats.” Her passion for wine lends itself to an easy transition from one role to the other. “Our goal is to advance Virginia forward producing the best possible wines, while enjoying the people that make a commitment to visit our winery.
