Silver Medal winner in the 2023 Governor's Cup

Silver Medal DENVER International Wine Competition 2023

Gold Medal and 2nd in the Shenandoah Cup 2023, and in top 7 wines in the Shenandoah Valley.

This wine was reviewd by world renowned wine critic Julia Harding with the following notes:

Score 16.5 (supeior/distinguished)

Made from Cayuga White (a complex hybrid selected in New York in 1052 and released in 1972), traditional method, aged three years on the lees. Dosage just 2 g/l. pH 3.15.
The citrus, herbal and green-fruits aroma dominates the nose so that the yeasty autolytic character is subtle. It was quite frothy when first poured but settled down in the glass to a fine mousse and a much more obvious toasty character. There's a slight sweet-sour impression on the finish even though the residual sweetness is so low. Packed with fruit but it's in balance with the traditional-method complexity from the yeast lees. Impressive for a hybrid variety, which has benefited from being taken seriously in the winery, with the investment needed for long lees ageing. (JH)

Aromas of citrus, apricot and pineapple. This wine has a beautiful nose, crisp and full of flavor. It's on of the most aromatic wines we have tasted. Very few wines throw some salt, making this wine so perfect with Thai food. The sweet, sour and salt in this wine makes it a perfect pairing. Excellent paired with Thai Beef Salad.

, Bosc pears, marjoram on the finish, white tea, layered. This wine was late harvested giving it some mouth-feel.  It's a big white wine that really pairs well with Umami.   Umami is a fifth taste that is often described as savory, meaty, or earthy.   We found this wine paired well with Rabbit.

Silver Medal Governor's Cup 2024

Soliel d'Ovest Estate 2022 was reviewed by world renowned wine critic Julia Harding. Below are her tasting notes.
Score 16 (superior)
Full screwcapped bottle 1,151 g. Cool fermentation and ageing in stainless steel. This is a cold-hardy hybrid bred in Minnesota in 1988 and released in 2022. This interspecific hybrid includes 45% Vitis vinifera, 28% Vitis riparia, and less than 10% each of Vitis rupestris, Vitis labrusca and Vitis aestivalis.

Intense, ripe tropical fruits on the nose with a hint of roses giving it a floral aspect – smells a little like Gewürztraminer. Ripe on the palate, too, highly scented, with a citrus freshness balancing those tropical fruit flavours and rose-petal notes. Much higher acidity than on a Gewürz, which makes this easy and refreshing. Really nicely made to bring out all the attributes of this variety to give a refreshing yet flavourful white with intensity and surprising length. I can imagine this variety might also be good in a blend as it is quite intense. Not for keeping, though. (Though perhaps I will be proved wrong.) (JH)

91 Points in the American Wine Society Awards 2023

Silver Medal in the Shenandoah Cup 2023

This is an "Orange Wine."  What is That? It's a white wine that was fermented on the skins – made like a red wine, but with white grapes. Not many vineyards make orange wines, we thought it would be fun and it turned out wonderfully!

2019 was a sell out.  This wine is 50% Tannat and 50% Arandell.   Big and Bold wine that certainly has some nice tannins and structure.   Think cherry, cranberry, and rhubarb.   Intensity is complex.  Beautiful long length.

This latest vintage of our number one selling wine is young and very similar to a Cab Franc at the moment, with a hint of smoke. Very well balanced and drinking very well in its youth.

If you love Big Red wines, this is a lovely grape that is compared to Cab Sav.   We put a touch of American Oak on it, otherwise it spent it's life in French Oak.   This dry lovely balanced wine is stunning. Earthy, mouth-watering, fruit compote, lingering, and soft.

After tasting this wine (two years on the lees) is any indication of what we have, I'm super excited   It is surpassing the 2020 vintage and with the inclusion of Pinot Meunier in the mix, it has the complexity needed to be the best Sparkling yet.  No Joke!
